No Police Inspector General would want to fail in his duties especially in
a democracy with a high level of citizen awareness and  participation. The Social
media has also made it possible for information to be exchanged between individuals
and groups within minutes.
Yesterday, the 31st August,2017 it was reported by many motorists along the
Enugu-Onitsha Highway that because of the activities of uniformed security
personnel at the boundary between Enugu and Anambra states, that people were
delayed for upwards of 5 hours on a journey that should not take more than 2 hours.
The days of physically checking every Tom,Dick and Harry are long gone in
countries that know what they are doing. How much does it cost to fix radar speed
meters, cctv cameras, body scanners and frequent helicopter patrols in areas that
are crime prone or suspected to be such. Why must law abiding citizens be subjected
to such cruel acts by a supposedly friendly security outfit. The Police need all the
goodwill from the populace now more than ever before.Policing becomes very
difficult when you alienate those tax payers that sustain the Force.
The Police Management Team may have to adopt other strategies if the Road
Blocks must remain.Government may also have to see to the repairs of the dilapidated
sections of the highway to ease traffic flow.
