NKEMJIKA RUNS FROM UMUAHIA TO OWERRI FOR PYTHON

Nkemjika is on the run.He has been since last week.A big python danced
in front of his father"s compound and disaster struck.No one could believe
that out of the belly of the python that deadly weapons as seen in places like Gaza,
Golan Heights,Medelin in Columbia and other far places could be vomited.
There were howitzers,M76 Tanks,F16 jets,the latest  American version of Armoured
Personnel Carriers on display.Nkemjika saw all these on foot and fled.A kid
who just turned nineteen.His heart nearly cut when he witnessed the acrobatic
display of two fighter jets over Orie Ugba.That was the last straw.
    On first light this morning,he left for Owerri on foot through an Obowo
village in Abia.He tried as much as possible to avoid soldiers and policemen
who are swarming over the whole Abia like bees.It was a sorry sight to
behold Nkem,as he gathered his few belongings,properly wrapped in a rafia
mat as he set for Owerri.He vowed ,he would not hit any major road especially
the main Umuahia-Owerri link road.Fear still gripped him as his best friend had
been shot a few days earlier for dressing in a mult-icoloured T shirt of black,green and red sent to him
by a cousin who lives in Malaysia.What has the world come to?Owerri here i come
was his refrain as he trekked on,unknown to him that there was danger lurking at the
Imo River crossing not too far from Ekenobizi.A soldier had gone into the bush to
relieve himself.He had dropped his AK 47 Rifle in the process.Nkem saw the rifle
before he saw Musa.He made a quick retreat but it was too late.Musa whose human
waste was as big as a football pulled his trouser on and commenced the pursuit of Nkem.
Nkem ran for his life and dodged many bullets.He got a respite when Musa got
entangled with a small poisonous snake that bit his behind as he fell.He had started
foaming in the mouth when Nkem made good his escape.The villagers of Nkanta are
apprensive.They fear a reprisal from the military boys.The Community has suggested
that the Soldier in distress be taken to the hospital and his weapon returned to Army
authorities.Musa has but an hour and half to live.Youths in the area are opposed to
the suggestion of the president General of Nkanta.Nkem is out of danger and is
determined to arrive Owerri before the sun begins to set.
