This is not the best of times for Police Officers and men, what with the increasing rate of crime in Nigeria.
Bring into the picture the Boko Haram saga and the increasing protests by Biafra supporters in parts of the country.Combine this with the lay offs or mass sacks by many private companies, coupled with the pathetic state of unemployment that is pervasive and you definitely conclude that there are hard times ahead for our men in black.Officers must at all times note that a lot of our citizens are on edge so to speak.Their temparament can boil over at the drop of a hat. Please my dear police officers do not be caught in the web or tricks of the enemy. If you are involved in accidental discharge, you are likely to face serious disciplinary consequences. He who fights and runs away, lives to fight another day.I am not advocating that you should be cowards, but always exercise discretion in these times so that you do not place members of your family in distress.
The other day a Police Officer was talked into not shooting indiscriminately into the air over a dispute with some motor park touts. He saw reason after the consequences of his action was laid before him".Whenever in doubt dont" is a guiding philosophy for all officers.Say no and a big NO to all unlawful orders.Let the 1999 constitution as amended be your guide, together with the police Act and other manuals, your Force Orders etc.
An advocacy is on, campainging for your welfare especially the inhuman state of barracks where you live.Something must be done urgently. You have all suffered enough..Rhetorics by government officials on police welfare should now be transformed into concrete action.
Thank you.
