Biafra,Police,Terrorism and Crime in Nigeria

Nigerian citizens are indeed victims of terrorism on a daily basis.People are subjected to all kinds of indignity for various reasons.You are terrorised for lack of adequate means of transportation by bus drivers and their mates known as conductors.All kinds of foul language spew from their mouth as if they were born with profanities.That is terrorism by other means.Fuel scarcity is a recurring decimal.When you think the problem has been tackled and laid to rest,it rears its ugly heads up without warning.Lives are lost as people store flammable petrol in their houses.More people die in the attempt to sabotage petroleum pipelines.Trucks laden with the product are involved in series of freak accidents that claim many lives.The Nigerian Senate is already in the process of passing a bill that will muzzle free speech which they term the social media bill.Majority of Nigerians feel they are being terrorised by their law makers not minding the fact that the same lawmakers came to power on the back of the social media.Every where you look in Nigeria,you are being terrorised.Domestic violence is another form of terrorism which is rampant in Nigeria.The other day a woman was bathed with acid by her husband for alleged infidelity.It is a thing of surprise however that agitators for Biafra have not resorted to violence in the propagation of their agenda.The Police must also be commended for not loosing their cool over the agitation.Our people must not resort to violence in other to make their voice to be heard.The Police on its part must continue to re strategize in her rules of engagement to avoid hitherto peaceful groups from donning the toga of violence.The case of Boko Haram is a very good example.What do we say about driving in our major cities?Driving in Nigeria is another form of terrorism.Drivers hardly obey traffic rules and thereby terrorise others.Sometimes you see motorists alight from their vehicles to engage in raw physical combat all because of reckless driving and resultant collisions.Sirens blare to drive lesser mortals from the highway.The sirens don't come from emergency units like ambulances or fire trucks but by those in government or some vagabonds who came by sudden wealth the source of which are usually questionable.So on a daily basis in Nigeria Security people have a lot to contend with.Atimes too, they also ignite conflict.There have been cases where soldiers invaded police barracks or stations shooting indiscriminately.Lawlessness at its peak.One wonders when we shall begin to get things right in Nigeria.Your guess is as good as mine.

Security Reports indicate that bombs detonated by terterroristsrorists are likely to go off soon in Abuja.There have been series of warnnngs coming from diverse sources pointing to this.The intelligence unit of the Abuja Municipal Council had earlier issued a written warning to all residents to ensure they avoid public places that attract many people.It would appear that the office of the National Security Adviser has also issued such warnings.The American Government the other day came up with an advisory warming to<br />  all her citizens in Nigeria that terrorists had perfected plans to bomb hotels in Abuja.   The hotels that eisily come to mind are many.Such hotels as Transcorp Hilton,Ibeto Hotels,Sheraton Hotels,Agura Hotel,Nixon Luxury Hotels,Chida Hotels,Chelsea Hotels and a host of others are possible targets.It behoves Security Agencies and the management of the hotels to work out strategies on how best to tackle this impending doom.<br /> Apart from this warning,Nigerians must also gear up for a Paris like shooting or the recent California shooting by a Muslim man and wife.We pray and hope it doesn't happen here.Those who want peace always prepare for war.<br /> <br /> <br />

BOKO HARAM ON THE ONSLAUGHT.IS THIS TRUE?

“Aside the 105 soldiers killed by Boko Haram, additional 34 soldiers were killed two days ago but it wasn’t in the news”– Deji Adeyanju.<br /><br />I concur with Mr. Deji Adeyanju. The most heartless and reprehensible thing that our government could have done is to cover-up the fact that 105 of our soldiers were killed by Boko Haram a few days ago. To do such a thing is simply evil.<br /><br />A soldier ought to be honoured in death and this is especially so if he died in the course of doing his duty and fighting for his nation.<br /><br />The government has not only dishonoured them by not acknowledging their sacrifice but they have also buried them in the wilderness like rabid dogs.<br /><br />This is wickedness of the highest order and President Buhari, his Chief of Army Staff and his Minister of Defence should bury their heads in shame.<br /><br />Anyone that buys the lie and propaganda that the 105 soldiers never died and that they are still alive is a compound fool or a village idiot.<br /><br />Will the military also deny the fact that a few days ago 34 of our soldiers were killed by Boko Haram? These boys died for their country. Why deny them?<br /><br />I am outraged by the fact that a soldier will sacrifice his life for his country yet the citizens and authorities of that country don’t even appreciate it.<br /><br />Pictures of the dead bodies were posted on social media. Everyone in the military knows that those soldiers are dead. It is an open secret. Yet because government denies it so many people just choose to believe them.<br /><br />The truth is that Boko Haram must have used chemical weapons in the attack. When you look at the pictures of the dead bodies this is obvious. It was probably mustard gas.<br /><br />All we want from the military is the truth. If 105 soldiers were not killed then how many actually were?<br /><br />The whole episode happened last week in Borno State and the military authorities are denying it. I am sickened by that.<br /><br />If others cannot appreciate the importance of honouring our dead soldiers, I can. I will not be intimidated and I will not remain silent.<br /><br />Tell us where our boys are buried and if you refuse to do so we will keep asking. There must be accountability and respect for those who have made the supreme sacrifice just to keep the rest of us safe. Our soldiers deserve that much.<br /><br />Finally, let it be said loud and clear that since President Buhari came to power he has not bought one bullet for the military. Considering the fact that we are in the middle of a protracted and very bloody war I believe that this is utterly shameful. If you say you want to fight and defeat Boko Haram then why are you not buying arms for your troops?<br /><br />This brings me to other matters and raises other questions about our President’s sincerity of purpose and commitment.<br /><br />You say that you are fighting Boko Haram yet you are travelling the world drinking tea with world leaders whilst your soldiers are secretly being slaughtered.<br /><br />You say you are fighting Boko Haram yet you were nominated as their spokesman and chief negotiator two years ago in a proposed peace talks with the Federal Government.<br /><br />You say you are fighting Boko Haram but the man you appointed as your National Security Adviser was retired from the army a few years ago for ordering the release of Boko Haram terrorists under suspicious circumstances.<br /><br />You say you are fighting Boko Haram but the first thing you did when you came to power was to remove military checkpoints. This guaranteed Boko Haram free movement and access to the entire country.<br /><br />You say you are fighting Boko Haram yet last year you told the world that an attack on Boko Haram is an attack on the North.<br /><br />You say you are fighting terror yet since you came to power Boko Haram has grown in strength, has regained lost territory and has been declared the “worlds number one most deadly terror group” by the Global Terror Index.<br /><br />You say you are fighting terror yet since you came to power Nigeria, according to the Global Terror Index, has been declared as not just having “the first most deadly terror group in the world” which is Boko Haram but also of having “the fourth most deadly terror group in the world” which is a group that the Index describe as the “Fulani militants” and that we call the Fulani herdsmen.<br /><br />You say you are fighting Boko Haram yet since you came to power Nigeria has been declared the world’s “third most terrorised country” by the Global Terror Index after Iraq and Afghanistan which were declared first and second respectively, whilst Syria and Pakistan were declared fourth and fifth.<br /><br />You say you are a “born again democrat” yet you voted against the protection of human rights at the United Nations alongside Iran, Zimbabwe and North Korea.<br /><br />You say you respect human rights yet you barricade Colonel Sambo Dasuki, the former National Security Adviser, in his home, endanger his life, deny him medical attention, flout court orders and make him critically ill.<br /><br />You say you respect human rights yet you arrest Governor Boni Haruna simply for standing as surety for Dasuki and you try to force him to abandon his friend.<br /><br />You say you respect human rights yet you raid Governor Attahiru Bafarawa’s home and arrest and detain his son simply because he is friends with Dasuki.<br /><br />You say you respect freedom of speech and human rights yet you lock up Nnamdi Kanu indefinitely and your security agents shoot two unarmed and harmless pro-Biafra youths to death in Enugu simply because they were involved in a peaceful demonstration.<br /><br />You say that you are a believer in the rule of law yet you ordered your secret police to storm a sitting governor’s official home in Akwa Ibom knowing that he enjoys immunity from such matters.<br /><br />You say you love Nigeria yet a bomb goes off in Kano killing over 21 people and instead of coming back home to mourn with your people you continue junketing around the world.<br /><br />You say you know how to run Nigeria but according to Paul Wallace and Michael Cohen of the United States magazine known as Bloomberg Business your “bounce has become bust”, your “policies irk investors”, you have “destroyed Nigeria’s economy” and you “do not have the capacity to move the country forward”.<br /><br />You say that you know how to manage the economy yet stocks and shares have crashed, small businesses are folding up, our foreign currency has dried up, industries are collapsing, agricultural output has decreased, our foreign reserves have been spent and the value of the naira has depreciated since you came to power and it continues to fall.<br /><br />You say you know what you are doing and how to manage Nigeria’s affairs yet the U.S-based Washington Times newspaper says that you lied to America about your so-called good intentions for Nigeria and that you have “duped the United States of America” with your false promises and empty words.<br /><br />You say that you are fighting poverty, yet according to the Business Day newspaper, Nigerians are “getting poorer for the first time since 1999”.<br /><br />You say that you will restore our country’s fortunes yet the fuel queues are back and the prices of food, transport and basic commodities are soaring by the day.<br /><br />You say that you are a man of your word and after you were declared winner of the election you promised not to malign, persecute, witchunt, demonise, disrespect or go after President Goodluck Jonathan and members of his administration unless you have concrete evidence of wrongdoing, yet when you came to power you did precisely that.<br /><br />You say you are fair-minded, true to your friends, loyal to your supporters and always reasonable yet you did not concede even one ministerial slot or approve one ministerial nominee of the two men that helped you more than any others to win the presidential election, namely President Olusegun Obasanjo and Governor Bola Tinubu.<br /><br />You say that you want the country to change, that you believe in fairness and equity, that you are a progressive, that you believe in a generational powershift and that you want the country to move forward, yet you are trying to destroy Governor Bukola Saraki simply because he won an election and became Senate President.<br /><br />You say that you are fighting corruption yet no one has been made to face the music or brought to book over the 25 billion naira REMITA and Systemspecs scandal, and neither has the matter been clarified or resolved even though it has been established that the whole deal was struck under your watch.<br /><br />You say you love Nigeria and all Nigerians yet your Fulani kinsmen, under the guise of herding cattle, are slaughtering thousands of innocent people all over the south and Middle Belt, yet you remain their Grand Patron and you refuse to utter to a word of condemnation for their actions.<br /><br />You say you respect Nigerians yet every time you travel out of the country you spend your time telling foreigners and the foreign media how useless, rotten and corrupt your people are and how you are the only saint in Nigeria.<br /><br />In view of all these, I am constrained to ask whether President Muhammadu Buhari has a conscience or is it that he has just lost touch with reality? Everything that I said about him during the presidential campaign has been confirmed and in just six months he has betrayed the trust and squandered the goodwill that the Nigerian people bestowed upon him in the March presidential election. I have to say that I am not surprised by this because his “change” mantra was just an illusion.<br /><br />What he and his APC failed to disclose to the Nigerian people during the campaign is that what he meant by “change” was a change from light to darkness. Sadly our people trusted him and now he has plunged our nation into that darkness.<br /><br />May God enable him to find the courage to retrace his steps before it is too late and may the Lord deliver Nigeria from those that are around him that fail to tell him the truth.<br /><br />I gather that they call those of us who oppose President Buhari and that are PDP supporters the “wailing wailers”. That is an interesting expression because by the time Buhari finishes with Nigeria I have little doubt that the entire country will be wailing.<br /><br />The truth is that I would rather be a “wailing wailer” that posterity vindicates than a “lying liar” or a “howling howler” who has lost his way and who continues to have confidence in a man like Buhari and a party like the APC that is hell bent on destroying our country and our cherished democratic institutions with their Rambo-like insensitivity and total ineptitude.<br /><br />All those “lying liars” and “howling howlers” who voted for President Buhari should clap for themselves for the terrible mess our country is now in. We will remember them in our prayers too.

For some it's financial security, others maybe security in their homes to protect their valuables. If we do not value anything or anyone then this logic will be obsolete. Now ever since I was a young boy growing up in Nigeria; I always felt secure because during these times (late 80's - early 90's); one didn't hear much about bombings or robberies as such. Maybe it might have been that my mind was not entirely focused on that because I was mainly concerned about playing football with friends and watching bollywood movies. My close encounter with this matter came around Christmas time circa 88-89. My siblings and I were returning from visiting our dad. I remembered when we opened the door, things seemed out of place as broken glass were on the dining table and valuables were missing. The one thing that I still think about was my favorite VHS movie (The Muppets) went missing with our video cassette recorder. Fast forward almost two decades, now living in the United States of America; security is pretty much all that is discussed here. After the attacks in New York in 2001, everyone works together to ensure that their neighbors are secured. In the neighbourhood in which I reside; most of my neighbors have home security systems because everyone goes about their businesses each morning. For my residence, we have what is know as ADT for residential. They provide services for other sectors as well in different industries and places of businesses. The service that they provide for a fee monthly protects your home from poisonous gases, fire and burglary. A system is placed in your home with a special pin code that can be armed and disarmed from the comfort of your mobile device application. All entrances and Windows have a special sensor that triggers an alert to you and then to local law enforcement in any attempt to breach your home and they respond within minutes. So it's very important that citizens place a level of trust with their neighbours; then build a relationship with local authorities (police or the fire service). I personally know that this feat may seem impossible but it's attainable with the right implementation of policies and procedures free of bias and corruption. Nigeria first and foremost should have an operational government with transparency and examples of good leadership that trickles down to its localities thereby building a sense of trust and confidence in the citizens of any and all communities that make up the diaspora.</div> <div dir="ltr" id="yui_3_16_0_1_1448733792290_3689" style="margin-bottom: 0; margin-top: 0;"> <br /></div> <div dir="ltr" id="yui_3_16_0_1_1448733792290_3690" style="margin-bottom: 0; margin-top: 0;"> By. Before you buy anything by telephone, remember:</span><br /> <ul type="square"> <li><span class="blackgraphtx">Don’t buy from an unfamiliar company. Legitimate businesses understand that you want more information about their company and are happy to comply. </span></li> <li><span class="blackgraphtx">Always ask for and wait until you receive written material about any offer or charity. If you get brochures about costly investments, ask someone whose financial advice you trust to review them. The recipient is encouraged to send information to the author, such as blank letterhead stationery, bank name and account numbers, and other identifying information using a fax number provided in the letter. Some of these letters have also been received via e-mail through the Internet. The scheme relies on convincing a willing victim, who has demonstrated a “propensity for larceny” by responding to the invitation, to send money to the author of the letter in Nigeria in several installments of increasing amounts for a variety of reasons.</span><br /> <span class="blackgraphtx">Payment of taxes, bribes to government officials, and legal fees are often described in great detail with the promise that all expenses will be reimbursed as soon as the funds are spirited out of Nigeria. In actuality, the millions of dollars do not exist, and the victim eventually ends up with nothing but loss. Once the victim stops sending money, the perpetrators have been known to use the personal information and checks that they received to impersonate the victim, draining bank accounts and credit card balances. While such an invitation impresses most law-abiding citizens as a laughable hoax, millions of dollars in losses are caused by these schemes annually. Some victims have been lured to Nigeria, where they have been imprisoned against their will along with losing large sums of money. The Nigerian government is not sympathetic to victims of these schemes, since the victim actually conspires to remove funds from Nigeria in a manner that is contrary to Nigerian law. The schemes themselves violate section 419 of the Nigerian criminal code, hence the label “419 fraud.”</span><br /> <span class="blackgraphtx"><strong>Tips for Avoiding Nigerian Letter or “419” Fraud:</strong></span><br /> <ul type="square"> <li><span class="blackgraphtx">If you receive a letter from Nigeria asking you to send personal or banking information, do not reply in any manner. Follow common business practice. For example, legitimate business is rarely conducted in cash on a street corner.</span><br /> <ul type="square"> <li><span class="blackgraphtx">Know who you are dealing with. If you have not heard of a person or company that you intend to do business with, learn more about them. Depending on the amount of money that you plan on spending, you may want to visit the business location, check with the Better Business Bureau, or consult with your bank, an attorney, or the police.</span></li> <li><span class="blackgraphtx">Make sure you fully understand any business agreement that you enter into. Insurers are then charged for products that were not needed and/or may not have been delivered.</span><br /> <span class="blackgraphtx">“Rolling Lab” Schemes:</span><br /> <span class="blackgraphtx">Unnecessary and sometimes fake tests are given to individuals at health clubs, retirement homes, or shopping malls and billed to insurance companies or Medicare.</span><br /> <span class="blackgraphtx">Services Not Performed:</span><br /> <span class="blackgraphtx">Customers or providers bill insurers for services never rendered by changing bills or submitting fake ones.</span><br /> <span class="blackgraphtx">Medicare Fraud:</span><br /> <span class="blackgraphtx">Medicare fraud can take the form of any of the health insurance frauds described above. Senior citizens are frequent targets of Medicare schemes, especially by medical equipment manufacturers who offer seniors free medical products in exchange for their Medicare numbers. Because a physician has to sign a form certifying that equipment or testing is needed before Medicare pays for it, con artists fake signatures or bribe corrupt doctors to sign the forms. This artificially increased trading volume has the effect of artificially increasing the price of the targeted security (i.e., the “pump”), which is rapidly sold off into the inflated market for the security by the fraud perpetrators (i.e., the “dump”); resulting in illicit gains to the perpetrators and losses to innocent third party investors. Maybe an Ocean’s 12 style infiltration would work… but let’s not forget the 40-ton vault door. The door was so airtight that a single hairpin would keep it from closing. I visited recently on a tour. Minimal security on entry, one tour guide escort down to the vault level for 25 visitors. Half of the group was sent down to the entrance unescorted, and asked to wait in the lobby for the second group to come in another elevator with the guide<br /> The vault was wide open, and is left that way all day apparently, and the entire group was able to enter, and even try to touch the gold by pushing finger through the gratings. The door into the gold storage room, just bars, was locked with a small everyday padlock and two other locks. The individual storage “cells” for the gold had combination locks, however were just steel barred doors.<br /> Entry to the vault area was past a small office area, with a few older office people at desks. There were no robots, just manual scales used for weighing, and electric pallet jacks for lifting. From the street to the gold, was a single unsecured glass door, an elevator, a vault level door with a swipe card access, and then the steel doors through to what was described as billions of gold bullion.<br /> Only 3 security guards were passed, all with small caliber handguns.
